Prof. Lee is currently an associate professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) since 2009, Korea. Before joining the UNIST, he was a Director of biofuel pathways in Fuel Synthesis Division in Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) and a Project Scientist in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). He completed his Ph.D. in the biochemical engineering laboratory at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). He has multiple educational backgrounds such as microbiology, life science, environmental engineering, and biochemical engineering. Now, he is focusing on the metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to modify existing, or to introduce entirely new, metabolic pathways and regulatory systems within cells in order to improve their capacity to overproduce desired molecules (Biofuels, Drugs, Chemicals). As of October 2018, he published over 50 scientific articles and 30 patents.
