Prof. Lee is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) since 2017, Korea. Before joining the POSTECH, he was a research scientist at Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. He completed his Ph.D. in the metabolic and biomolecular engineering laboratory at KAIST. He focused on the development of microorganisms to produce industrially relevant chemicals and also worked on the use of in vitro protein expression systems to develop diagnostics and therapeutics. His research group is highly interested in the construction of synthetic circuits to regulate gene expression for a variety of molecular and cellular devices. As of October 2019, he published 28 scientific articles, 12 patents registered, and 53 patents pending.
