Dr. Lee is currently a senior researcher at the Synthetic Biology and Bioengineering Research Center of Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) and a professor at University of Science and Technology, Korea. Before joining the KRIBB, he was a postdoc at the Department of Bioengineering of University of California San Diego, USA. He completed his Ph.D. at the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology of the Seoul National University, Korea. His research has involved the development and application of synthetic biology tools for studying metabolic engineering of microbial cell factories. His early work focused on evolutionary engineering through adaptive laboratory evolution of bacterial cells. More recently my research has shifted to studies of dynamic sensing and regulation for developing smart cell factories and therapeutic microbes through genetic circuits and CRISPRs. He has been awarded a member of the Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology (Y-KAST) 2018.
