Dr. Kim is a professor at Yonsei University since 2012. He got his bachelor's and master's degrees at Seoul National University. With a doctorate in 1997 partly supported by Korean Government's Overseas Scholarship, he served as a postdoctoral associate at Cornell University. In 2000, he began his career as a professional scientist in microbial genomics at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), and was also affiliated with the University of Science and Technology (UST). He is an expert in microbiology, genomics, and systems/synthetic biology. His research interests span genome dynamics and evolution to microbe-host interactions at the microbiome or metagenome level. With many scientific accomplishments, including several awards and a number of highly cited publications on genomics, evolution and pathogenicity of a number of bacterial systems, he continually seeks innovative approaches for his research on microbes and microbial systems.
