Prof. Nomura is a Professor in Life and Environmental Sciences / Vice Director of Microbiology Research Center for Sustainability at University of Tsukuba, the Research Director of JST ERATO NOMURA Microbial Community Control Project,
the Vice Director of the Japanese Society of Biofilm Research and the Director of Japan Society for Environmental Biotechnology. Nomura obtained a Ph.D. in Engineering from the graduate school of Engineering at Hiroshima University in 1995.

Since he joined Tsukuba University in 1996, he has spent his time energetically on microbial metabolism and biofilms as his main research. Since 2015, Nomura has been leading JST ERATO NOMURA Microbial Community Control Project to elucidate the behavior of microbial communities and their interactions. This project consists of six research groups with more than 90 researchers
including graduate students. Nomura is also keen on educating young researchers. During those time, he has become a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo and Niigata University in Japan.
