He has been engaged in the development of microbial resources and the preparation research of bio-based chemicals for a long time and has published more than 300 SCI papers. He was awarded the Elsevier Most Cited Chinese Researchers in area of Chemical Engineering from 2014 to 2018. In recent years, he cultured the new patented algae species for production of Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which conquered the key technologies of high-density fermentation of microalgae and key technologies of directional regulation of fatty acids. It hugely promoted the microalgae production of DHA oil and promoted the independent development of domestic DHA industry.
