Professor Yu is a professor in Department of Chemical Engineering, Center for Synthetic and Systems Biology, Tsinghua University, and Key Laboratory of Industrial Biocatalysis, Ministry of Education, China, the head of Tsinghua University (DCE)-Shandong Polymer Company Biochemicals Joint center (2011-2016). Yu received her Ph.D. in Biochemical engineering from Tsinghua University, where she constructed engineered E. coli producing high titer of biodegradable plastics PHB, meanwhile capable of auto-cell lysis to release PHB granules after fermentation thereby simplify the product recovery; she got her postdoctoral training in DCE, MIT, where she worked on hyaluronic acid bio-synthesis via metabolic pathway regulation of engineered E. coli. She also is the recipients of several prestigious awards, e.g. “National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation”, “Beijing Nova (A) in Science and Technology”, “New Century Excellent Talents in University” and “Award for Technological Invention (2nd prize)" of MOE, China.”
