Dr. Fu earned his doctorate degree from University of Florida. He did his postdoctoral work at Yale University. As a postdoc with Dr. Dieter Söll, he focused on developing novel ways for selenoprotein biosynthesis by genetic code expansion. He later joined BGI-Shenzhen as an associate research fellow. His main research topics at BGI-shenzhen incudes: genome design and synthesis, non-canonical amino acid incorporation by genetic code expansion, controllable cell function, directed evolution. So far, he has published 16 peer-reviewed articles, including MBio, RNA Biol, FEBS Lett as the first author, and Angew Chem Int Ed Engl, FEBS J, Bioresour Technol as the co-author.
